Twenty years ago she began to make a film about a
great story—a prison
break, a love story, walking through three countries to get to freedom.
The film was going to be her masterpiece—but there was one small problem.
Most of it was not true.
She kept traveling farther to find the truth. It took her twenty years,
ten countries, generations of lies, thousands of pictures, and finally
the collapse of the most intricately woven architecture of denial to see what
had been there all along. There would still be a transformation in
this film of hope. But the transformation could not be revealed without responsibility,
and truth.
Our greatest journey to freedom is the walk we take to find first our
authentic self. Only then can we reinvent the story—not based on
the one we were told—but the story we hear in the light that shines from
within.
